How Safe Are Online Backup Servers?

Ever wonder how safe are those online backup services? Services such as Mozy, XDrive, ADrive, and more, with many of these free online backups going around, which are the safest and best to use? If you're going to hold sensitive data (considered it's not yours and a clients), servers must be protected and must have a backup almost every day. This is a concern that must be heard to major or small online backup providers because now that hackers and getting sneakier than ever and possibly a step ahead of us, this shows no good for us and our private data.
